Senior Computational Biologist (ML Expert) - Malta

Job description

Data Science and Computational Biology are key components of Omniscope’s approach to reading the immune system to sense, diagnose, and monitor diseases. We are looking for highly motivated scientist who leads our effort to decipher the Immune Code by converging immunology, genomics, and machine learning. Our mission to leverage adaptive immune cells as a universal diagnostic tool will be transformative for health care and we would be delighted if you join our exciting journey. Successful candidates must have a strong background in machine learning, computational biology, and statistics as well as a good understanding of immunology.

Omniscope generates deep profiles of T cell and B cell receptor (TCR/BCR) repertoires from millions of single cells for a high-resolution profile of immune specificities and dynamics in clinical areas, such as immunotherapy for cancer and vaccines for infectious diseases. The Senior Computational Biologist will be part of a team developing computational frameworks for the profiling and interpretation of the Immune Code. He/she will develop diagnostic tools based on reading the TCR/BCR repertoire and will collaborate closely with the Software Engineering team. A deep knowledge of genomics, machine learning, statistical theory, and programming is essential for this role.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Provide strong technical expertise to the Computational Biology team.
  • Develop and implement computational methods and frameworks for the analysis of high-throughput single-cell transcriptome and TCR/BCR sequencing data.
  • Apply and develop new tools for the integrative analysis and visualization of large datasets in systems immunology.
  • Develop ML-based diagnostic pipelines.
  • Benchmarking and performance optimization.
  • Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of large-scale collaborative projects with translational and clinical/pharma partners.
  • Support R&D strategies to enable rapid progression in our understanding of the Immune Code.
  • Contribute to study designs to meet diagnostic product development objectives.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • MSc in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 3+ of experience in academia or biotech/pharma industry in the field of ML/AI applied to biological data.
  • Strong background in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Statistics.
  • Strength in data management and visualization.
  • Strong scientific background and publication record with proven high levels of performance.
  • Significant experience with Python/R/Julia.

Nice to have:

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, and Computer Science.
  • Previous experience in immunology, especially in T cell and B cell receptor analysis.
  • Experience in cloud or cluster computing.
  • Experience with clinical patient data and biomarker collection plans.
  • Programming languages: MySQL, JavaScript, PHP.
  • Python packages: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Numba, CUDA.
  • Experience with Jupyter Notebooks.
