Lab Technician for Tech Development Team - Australia

Job description

Working directly with the Chief Technology Officer, Director of Omniscope AU, and the VP of R&D, we are seeking two experienced Lab Technicians for Tech Development Team, who will carry out high-level laboratory work and provide technical support in all R&D projects within the OS AU R&D Laboratory.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Carry out Single cell-omics experiments
  • Isolate and prepare single cell and single nuclei suspensions from various tissues
  • Prepare sequencing libraries for Illumina and/or BGI-MGI Sequencing Systems
  • Coordinate submission of sequencing samples
  • Perform FACS analyses
  • Perform QC analyses
  • Maintain laboratory stocks
  • Keep comprehensive laboratory work records
  • Maintain the LIMS system
  • Working together with the VP of R&D to perform all administrative and governance-related activities to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the laboratory by coordinating the maintenance of laboratory equipment calibration and servicing, inventory of reagents, cell lines, and samples.
  • Keep updated with the current literature
  • Keep updated with current and new technology

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification - likely with Honours - in an appropriate discipline along with relevant experience in Biology, Molecular Biology, or Genomics.
  • May have (or be working towards) completing further studies such as Ph.D. or have extensive specialist experience in Genomics research or in general technology of Biology or Molecular Biology.

Competences

  • Extensive experience in developing and working on R&D or research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions, and grant applications
  • Experience in an R&D or research-intensive environment
  • Expertise in Single Cell Genomics
  • Single-cell preparations
  • Tissue dissociation techniques
  • Expertise in FACS workflow and analysis
  • Expertise with tissue banking
  • Working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of the Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation (including Safe Laboratory Practices for roles based in Laboratory)
  • Numeracy skills together with previous experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking, and managing invoice payments and purchases
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both verbal and written) paired with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgment and ability to prioritize workload during busy periods
  • Extensive experience in cell/tissue culture
  • Extensive experience in PCR and Real-Time PCR
  • Extensive experience with DNA and RNA work
  • Extensive experience with ascetic techniques
  • Oversee the Health and Safety Policy and relevant legislation for the lab
  • Ensure timely management of laboratory R&D projects to meet program delivery and reporting deadlines
  • Ensure smooth day to day operations of the laboratory by coordinating the maintenance of laboratory equipment calibration and servicing, inventory of reagents, cell lines, and vectors
  • Guide staff in the use of research facilities

Location and travel

  • Based in Adelaide, Australia
  • Travel might be required
